Roots of Music Program (RoMP) - brings music to students, and students to music! This semester-long program empowers 4th graders with music lessons in school, inspires them with interactive concert field trips, and motivates them with arts integration learning strategies. Students learn anchor concepts like rhythm, melody and dynamics by engaging with African rhythm, American spirituals and folk, and Mexican traditional music. Supported by an innovative curriculum for both teachers and students that connects with core English and History units, RoMP teaches students to observe closely, think deeply and participate joyfully. RoMP currently serves over 800 4th grade students in eight Title I schools in San Pedro and Wilmington each year, and is made possible with major support from the California Arts Council and Crail-Johnson Foundation.
