Roots of Music (RoMP)

Bringing the world of music to students!

A semester-long course targeted at fourth graders that teaches anchor concepts like rhythm, melody and dynamics through the exploration of music and cultures of West Africa, the United States and Mexico.

Students attend three interactive music concerts at the Grand Annex, eight in-school lessons enriched with project-based learning and STEAM activities, and perform a culminating recital.

RoMP on the Road

Similar to RoMP, described above, but the entire program takes place at your school. Good for schools at a distance from the Grand Annex in San Pedro.

Recorders in Schools

Building musical and creative skills in school!

A year-long program designed for fifth graders. Grand Vision teaching artists lead students in 24 sequential weekly classes in recorder playing technique, reading music notation, and ensemble performance, culminating in a student performance.

Teachers learn tools to connect Meet the Music curriculum to history, culture and mathematics while reinforcing music learning.

The Percussion Program

A semester or year-long program explores percussion styles and creative expression. Students practice call-and-response songs and play polyrhythms while also making connections to STEAM, math and history.

An optional second semester introduces the study of pitched percussion, music notation and melodies.

Meet the Music Students Playing Violin

Strings in Schools

A semester or year-long program that builds a firm foundation in violin technique, musicianship and musical notation.

Students participate in 12 weekly classes per semester, learning critical violin skills such as bowing and intonation while benefiting from the team-building experience of group musical practice.

“I loved going [to RoMP] because I learned about music like pitch, rhythm, tempo, melody, steady beat and about dynamics. I am now confident enough to perform in front of many people. I learned about other cultures and their history. I learned many songs and how people make some instruments.”

“I enjoyed playing recorders because I now know that I can do anything I want to do if I set my mind to it which is called ‘Growth Mindset.’ When I get called on it makes me happy because I can show others, and I feel comfortable because I have supportive classmates and teachers!”
