With her silky voice, charming melodies and rogue wit, the highly acclaimed McKay brings her renegade take on Great American classics. “..funny and touching, ceaselessly clever and scarily talented.” – The New Yorker

Nellie is old school and new school and unique in so many ways. She got her start in musical theatre. She sings great American songbook songs and writes her own originals. She's not quite 40, She's into Doris Day. Her recently released seventh album, Sister Orchid (2018) received high praise from the New York Times.

She plays piano or strums her ukulele and sings songs that make you think, laugh or even question the unusual political out for a bit of caustic wit.
This is what the big kids say about Nellie:
“Thanks to (McKay), the Great American Songbook has a living, breathing present as well as a glorious past” – Boston Globe

“McKay comes on as a Harlem Holly Golightly, a social activist with a disarming mastery of pop vernacular.” – Los Angeles Times

“…a sly, articulate musician who sounds comfortable in any era” – The New York Times
