The "Grand Chairs" & Their Artists

The theme of my chair is "Film" - it will be an art chair, not fit to sit on. The seat will be woven out of a 8 mm movie film, attached with tapestry nails; the chair itself will be painted in colors to provide a pleasing contrast to the film; some of the 8 mm film strips will wind around the back of the chair and a twisted 35 mm one will add a 3-D aspect to the work. A light under the chair will illumine the film strips.

Biography

I was born in Austria, and as a girl lived in England, France and Germany. From 1965-78 I traveled world-wide, When I met my husband Edward I moved to California. We married and raised our daughter Margot. I graduated in Fine Arts summa cum laude in 1986. Since then I have been working as a professional artist out of my studio at the Loft in San Pedro, mainly in the medium of assemblage and collage. I have exhibited in the U.S, and Europe and won several awards. In search of fellowship with other assemblage artists, I found there was a lack of artist groups specializing in this medium, so I founded the Los Angeles Assemblage Group in 1995. The group networks and exhibits together.

In 2002, the Stadtmuseum of my native town St. Poelten invited me to show work that mirrors my childhood in Austria during and after World War II. The exhibit "Katharsis" was also shown in Melk/Danube later that year. In 2002 I participated in an International Art Colony in Galichnik, Macedonia. This year, I was instrumental in bringing ten Macedonian artists to Angels Gate Cultural Center to participate in a Californian Art Colony. I served as chairperson of "Art To Grow On" in San Pedro during the founding years. When our daughter outgrew the program, I started designing art projects for the art enrichment groups of the South Bay.

I am a labyrinth facilitator and consultant trained by Dr. Lauren Artress from Grace Cathedral, San Francisco. Among the permanent labyrinths I have helped install are the outdoor labyrinth at Christ the King, a Chartres style labyrinth at Van Nuys Middle School, a labyrinth design based on the Cochlear at "Options for Recovery" in Torrance, and a 7-circuit Cretan/Hopi design at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. I have held many workshops and lecture on "The Historical Roots and Contemporary Uses of the Labyrinth".
