The "Grand Chairs" & Their Artists

Born in Long Beach, his father drilled the second oil well at Signal Hill. Gerry always liked putting things together and building things when he was a child. He received his Masters degree in Art at Long Beach State University, even though he is dyslexic. He taught school at Orange Coast, Cal State Northridge, and UCLA. In 1958, he started a small guitar shop in Santa Monica called McCabe's, which today is a well-known Los Angeles folk and independent music venue and music store. Later, he opened a wood furniture store in the same town. Gerry tables and chairs have been shown in many galleries. With an avid interest in boating, not only does he stylize his own boats, he's also designed the interiors of many boats for others. He has been featured multiple times in the Home and Magazine sections of both the Los Angeles and New York Times. When not spending time creating, he also likes to race vintage cars.
