The "Grand Chairs" & Their Artists

Debbie Marr first sees her subject as a puzzle to be pieced together with each piece having its unique shape, color, value, and texture. She then proceeds to fit each piece together to create a magnificent whole. Detail and accuracy are obviously important to the artist and therefore she works with a series of photographs to create her photo realistic images. She works equally well with watercolors, airbrushing with acrylics and dyes and creating new-age computer illustrations. Many of her paintings focus on subjects often taken for granted, but which are rich in local history and may someday disappear from the scene. In each, she captures every painstaking detail with awareness and clarity beyond most peoples grasp. That is why each time the viewer looks at her work, he is apt to experience it again as though for the first time. Her recent subjects range from a series of landmarks located in the city of San Pedro, California. Her work cannot be absorbed at a glance. Debbie's art has won various awards including "Best of the Harbor Artist" and her print of Simon Rodia is part of the permanent collection at the Watts Towers in Los Angeles and in Serino, Italy.
