What is the Warner Grand Theatre?

The Warner Grand Theatre opened on January 20, 1931 and was one of three Art Deco movie palaces” built by Warner Brothers Studio in the Los Angeles area at that time. The other two theatres are no longer intact, the Warner Beverly Hills Theatre has been demolished, and the Huntington Park Warner Brothers, has been extensively altered. San Pedro’s Warner Grand Theatre was originally named Warner Bro.s Theatre, the name was changed in 1984.

Grand Vision Foundation was formed by a group of concerned citizens in the mid-nineties to save and reactivate the Warner Grand Theatre. In 1996, Grand Vision successfully advocated for the City of Los Angeles to purchase the Theatre. The City’s Department of Cultural Affairs operates the Theatre, and Grand Vision has a Memorandum of Understanding to act as its official Friends Group. As the Friends, we assist the theater with advocacy, a corps of trained volunteers, restoration projects and the marketing of its events.
